Honda two-motor hybrid powertrain

Innovation is on full display with the two-motor hybrid system found in many Honda models. The system isn’t only fuel-efficient; it also delivers the dynamic ride you want to enjoy every single day. Visit Clark Knapp Honda to see for yourself the difference this specialized engineering makes.

Components of the Two-Motor Hybrid System

The two-motor hybrid system has been available on select vehicles since the 2014 model year and has been continually improved since then. This hybrid-electric system includes an electric generator motor that sends power to the battery and a propulsion motor that sends power to the wheels. Vehicles featuring this system are also equipped with an Atkinson gas engine, an intelligent power unit, and a power control unit.

How the System Enhances Performance and Efficiency

Thanks to the large propulsion motor’s high-performance magnets and multi-ring structure, Honda vehicles with the two-motor hybrid system deliver excellent responsiveness and horsepower. As the system has evolved over the years, the battery has gotten smaller yet more powerful, and some 2025 and 2026 models use a 1.06-kWh battery that maximizes every ounce of fuel without sacrificing performance. We’re now in the fourth generation of this system, and you can find it on the new and pre-owned hybrid models of the Honda CR-V, Honda Accord, Honda Civic, and Honda Prelude.
